I'm really starting to think that this whole fad with trying to ban gay marriage is getting out of control. I'm not saying this because it's the democratic thing to say, but I'm saying this because its not our right to step on other people's pursuit of happiness. And hey, if the way they are happy is by being married to a person of the same sex, so be it.
It's really not our place when we argue if we're for or against it. Seriously, who cares? If someone wants to be married, let them be married for goodness sakes. Many people argue that gay marriage is against their religion. Um.. HELLO! You're not the one being married there are you? So how or why would it affect your religion?
People think that by banning gay marriage, there won't be any more homosexual people around. Banning it is really not gonna make a difference. People just have to learn to except, respect and live with the fact that there are different people out there. Change is bound to exist. As for the senators and congressmen who are fighting so hard to ban gay marriage, I don't think they're doing such a smart thing. These people that they are trying to hold back and are against, also vote, also have a say in what goes on in this nation.
Well that's how i feel about this topic, do comment please.

I completely agree. Gay people have been around during nearly all eras of life, regardless of what others choose to believe. What about literary greats like Oscar Wilde and Lord Byron? Several authors, artists, and other influential individuals were gay and kept it hidden due to the scrutiny of the times. I would like to think that the human race has evolved since 1677 but unfortunately, that is not the case for everyone.
I can understand in the case of some religious individuals, they may not want "gay marriage" but rather a "civil union". Considering civil unions have all the same benefits of marriage in the tax and political world, I think this is a decent, although not fair, compromise.
Nonetheless, I was appalled at some of the arguments I heard in class today. Gay marriage is not "gross". Gay marriage is not "wrong". Those are not even reasons to not put support behind gay marriage. Those are ignorant opinions and I feel unfortunate for those whose minds are narrow enough to believe that.
I think I might have to go with HL on this one, sorry. It probably won't pass. It's still a pretty new thing to the public, and I personally don't think that many people are ready for it. Scientifically, it will just stop procreation (I definitely spelled that wrong), and it'll narrow the population down. And besides, it's not a widely accepted thing. There is still so much racism out there, but gay marriage would be so much worse. I personally think it is wrong, but I totally understand where you come from with letting people do what they want. After all, it is the land of the free, right?
